Many of us have the opportunity to target new markets. It may be that you’ve been operating within certain sectors such as; hospitality, retail, food and beverage and other sectors that are currently going through a very difficult time because they’re not allowed to trade.

However, without entering new sectors, adapting your products and services and changing the way you operate, your business will struggle to develop. Examine your strengths and skills, understand your message and USP and use this information to find markets that you can clearly segment, target and position yourself towards.

A final point – when it comes to a Unique Selling Proposition (USP) it’s not good enough to say you offer a personal service, high quality, customer focus, or similar phrases, who wouldn’t! When speaking to clients I always like the use of M&M’s USP – ‘Chocolate that melts in your mouth, not in your hand’. This clearly differentiates and demonstrates how a strong USP can make an impact and makes it clear to customers why to choose you!
